Hi Austin, sorry if this question doesn’t relate to your post but I was wondering what major you are studying in japan. I would love to study and live in japan but the only concern that I have is finding a job as a foreigner. Are there any jobs that are likely available to foreigners besides teaching english (most common one i’ve heard about). I am thinking of going into the Medical field or maybe even journalism.

Cooking is all well and good, but for the best bang for your buck it’s better to cook, it’s best to cook Japanese-style. Or the Japanese version of western food. Now easily accessible in English: https://en.cookpad.com/

The reason is that a lot of your own native ingredients may be more expensive. (Like Swedish food is pretty dairy-heavy in some cases, and dairy is prohibitively expensive here.) Seasonal veggies are always a good bargain and you learn a lot more about Japan’s veggies/seasons etc.

If you have one square metre of space that gets sunshine, grow your own potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage, peas, lettuce, etc. I have a 1m wide 2m tall 40cm deep window which I’ve put five mesh shelves in and made into a mini-greenhouse.

Got my bike stolen after half a year of use and almost all my friends shared a similar story, so wouldnt really say that bicycle theft is uncommon here…(locking might help of course, just don’t get too carefree as myself)
