I believe there has been a movement to hype the sport, especially at school level.

I was trying to briefly explain why he was an important example of Japan’s glut of midfielders, not put down Nakazawa or Tulio. He is tremendously successful because a not-terrible Premier League club paid 5 million dollars to sign him, he started for them last year, and he plays for his national team (perhaps poorly, which only strengthens the point about Japan’s lack of defensive talent, even if you would prefer they play a different back line).

But thanks for the conversation, I don’t get to talk J League with too many folks these days.
