I play a few Japanese video games and ごめんなさい seems to be used more with close friends or people in your group, while すみません is used for everyone else like shop staff, those you don&#039;t really know well etc. But I said すみません to my Japanese friend once and she gave a wide-eyed look like I said something weird, but she said that すみません is to formal and a bit cold to use to friends.]]></description>
