Ahh thanks for the replies!

I grabbed the Genki because I thought a physical book that I could grab everyday would keep me more honest than a website would. I plan to move over to Textfugu after I finish the first Genki book and know I can commit myself to it... That's the plan, at least :p

I'd agree with this (as someone equally with no expertise or qualification).

I've been a perma-beginner of Japanese for 10 years now. /10 years/. I mean, REALLY?? WaniKani however is addicting. There is an achievement like quality to it that makes you WANT to continue. Seriously, I was in a crowded space (concert, waiting on the bands to change) when my first kanji became "enlightened" (4th stage). Much to my dismay, as soon as this happened I said (really loudly), "BOOM B**CHES!!" Because, you know. That's what mature people do apparently. Still, the point is that it gives you a goal and a sense of achievement when you reach that goal, which is exactly what Koichi is talking about in this "motivation series".

To that end, I'd also recommend Textfugu. Much of the textbook has given me a different way to view learning Japanese. I started with the Genki books back in college and I never made it past the first book. BUT everyone has a different style of learning. If they work for you, then GREAT! Genki is a good series that has helped a lot of people learn Japanese. I just personally didn't have the attention span for it. :|

Hahah, oh gosh yes. Tumblr kills lives.

Also, I'd(as someone whom has no expertise or qualifications to tell you anything) say its always smart to study with Wanikani. At all times.
But wouldn't that really be a decision that is up to you? After all, even this article we had read states that willpower isn't exactly the most abundant resource. You know your limits and what you can keep up. Surely you ought to have your answer somewhere in yourself. :-)
Trust in that much!
