My stakes? I already paid for the JLPT N1 exam and if I don’t pass, it’s a waste of money and huge disappointment for me. Also, my Japanese wife quizzes me a few times a week on the readings as I learn them.

It’s been working incredibly well so far and I’m very pleased with the results. In the last 6 six weeks I have mastered all kana and learnt 547 kanjis with LRNJ: Slime Forest Adventure and 510 words with Anki. All that coupled with reading tofugu, grammar guides and japanese texts (childrens’ stories, shounen manga, games and such) religiously everyday, I’m confident that I’ll soon reach a level of profiency I’m satisfied with, which will be when I can read novels and play imported games without assistance. And then I’ll study some more, because of course, you never stop learning! :)
