I went to a spa recently and the girl who was taking care of me was Japanese, so we got to talking about the culture since she moved here some time ago and was interested in my perspectives. It worked out well for me because the last she was in her country was about early 2000s which was the height of my interest in the culture because I was a teenager. Now I don't care too much for the popular culture so I'd be pretty dated to talk to anyone now. One of the things she was telling me was how her Canadian husband was so interested in Ganguro girls. Not because they were pretty or anything, just that they were so silly looking to him and we had a good laugh chatting about them. It seemed like such a silly fad that I hadn't heard anything about in the past decade, I'm so relieved to see it's evolved to a less ridiculous form lol... The last time I was in Japan I was in rural towns so I didn't see any. I'm looking forward to going back though because I'll be in Tokyo :)
