(the manga, guys, the manga). If you pay attention, CLAMP have always been very interested in and knowledgeable of traditional Japanese culture, folktales and supernatural elements and Holic is a showcase of this (there are many implicit references that go unnoticed, too).

It literally means “Faint Spirit”. But the most proper translation of yuurei is phantom. And the Japanese meaning of phantom is a lot different the English meaning of phantom of course. The more proper word for ghost (as in soul of a dead person) in Japanese is bourei 亡霊（ぼうれい） it literally means, “Dead Spirit”. Then there are also other forms of spirits like sorei 祖霊(それい）or Poltergeist, and shinrei 神霊（しんれい） or Divine Spirit.
