Well there are modern tables now and some seemingly Japanese household tables even have a hole beneath the table so it looks like you’re sitting seiza style but actually sitting with your feet down.

Same in Canada! I have never ben in a house where you didn’t take off your shoes! If anything the americans are the weird ones for neve taking them off..

Yeah. Here in America, I live in a family being from vietnam…. they don’t want ANYONE walking in the house with dirty shoes on, because my family doesn’t want the floor to be all dirty so that we have to clean it AGAIN. Its not odd to me. O_E

Perhaps it’s just that Americans generally don’t consider wearing shoes in the house to be that big of a deal. It’s not at all uncommon to take off your shoes in someone’s house.

I really love all your “How to be a Baka Gaijin” articles! I have some suggestions I would really enjoy reading (of course, no pressure or anything hehe). Some suggestions would be: How to be a Baka Gaijin when making friends, when shopping, when singing karaoke, things like that. Please do make more of these whether mine or yours (^~^)
Also, does anyone have any good websites for self-teaching Japanese? Please do tell~~
