Conjugating い-Adjectives to く Form

    • Adjective
    • Conjugation Form
The く form of い-adjectives has two major uses: it changes い-adjectives into adverbs, and it can link two clauses together to form a compound sentence. It is also the first step in conjugating into the て form and negative form of い-adjectives.

    What Is the く Form?

The く form is one of the possible forms an い-adjective can take. It's sometimes referred to as the "adverbial form" of い-adjectives, because forming adverbs is one of its primary purposes. In addition, it can also be used to link two clauses together to form a compound sentence.

Conjugating い-adjectives into the く form is very simple: remove the final 〜い on the adjective, and replace it with 〜く.

     + く = 速

In addition to making adverbs and linking clauses, the く form also serves as an intermediary step when conjugating to the て form and the negative form.

     + て = 速くて

     + ない = 速くない
