If they do date foreign men, it usually men who are reasonably fluent in Japanese, understand Japanese culture etc. Besides as the above article describes, the Japanese girls in college were not fawning over foreign men. Please do not confuse the average, high-end etc Japanese girl for the English hunters/ gaijin groupie.

It happened in my country. In the university…there is a Faculty were we could say 95% of the students are guys. So, if a girl walked in the Faculty, everyone would wolf-whistle at her. Literally everyone! Even if they couldn’t see her. There were times where if someone began to whistle…everyone followed and began to look around trying to find the girl they were whistling to! It was hilarious when actually there was no girl around haha

more boy-crazy in high school, and since all their friends are too, the
crazy just sort of expands upon itself, like microphone feedback. College girls are more mature (in general) and have more to occupy their time and thoughts.

It’s possible that this level of adoration is unique to Japan, but I
have a feeling it might just be more related to the fact that it was an
all-girls’ school. I remember being really boy-crazy in high school too,
but I went to high school with boys and girls, so interactions were required to be slightly more nuanced than just “There’s a cute guy on the school
grounds!!!”

Throw exotic/foreign into the mix, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to cause a commotion!
