once i started shadowing an old chinese tape (yes, tape) that my dad found in the basement, and i listened to it on the way to work every day, and i found out just how good it is. i would REALLY suggest to start any language by shadowing (i regret not doing it with japanese), because it helps develop good pronunciation and listening skills VERY quickly.
