Shave 30 Years Off Your Japanese Studies In 30 Days [New Ebook!]

What if you could spend the next thirty days honing the way you learn Japanese and as a result shave thirty years off your Japanese studies? Would you do it? I for one wouldn’t want you to look like this by the time you’re fluent.

He didn’t know how to study Japanese very well…

That’s the basic idea that spawned the idea for the ebook we’re releasing today in the Tofugu Store. I wanted to write something that could help anyone studying Japanese no matter what resource they ended up using. In the end, most resources and classes basically cover the same sorts of things. “To be fluent, you learn X, Y, and Z.” Really, there isn’t a ton of variation on what you learn.

If you want to become fluent a lot more quickly, like years and years faster than anyone else, you don’t need to change what you learn, you need to change how you’re learning it.

Textbooks won’t tell you about this. Why? Because they don’t care how long it takes you to learn. Why would they?

The thing that differs greatly from person to person, and the thing that decides whether someone takes a couple of years to gain fluency or a couple of decades, really boils down to how good they are at learning. With this ebook, I want to help people with the “how” side of things. Here’s how I do it:

“30 Days Of Becoming A Better Japanese Learner”

Our new ebook (titled above) is is broken up into thirty chapters / days (with bonus chapters coming soon!). Each day covers a single topic – a topic that will help you to learn Japanese more effectively. Each chapter will go over:

What: Learn what you should be doing different.

Why: Learn why you should be doing said subject differently.

How: Learn what you need to do to accomplish this.

Do: Actually take action and do the things talked about in the chapter. If you don’t try it, how will any of this help you? I’ll tell you what you need to do and how you do it so you can accomplish Japanese language greatness.

With this setup, you not only learn how to learn Japanese as effectively as you can, but you’ll actually make measurable progress in your Japanese as well. If you go through every chapter and do everything in this ebook, I’ll be surprised if you’re not considerably better at Japanese within 30 days, not to mention the following months where you take these strategies and really run with the ones that work for you.

This Ebook Is Made For…

Well, Japanese learners for starters. If you’re not learning Japanese, chances are this ebook won’t help you as much (though, to be honest, you learn a ton about productivity, memory, and general learning as well, though that’s not what this ebook was specifically made for). All levels of Japanese will benefit from this ebook because it covers how to learn, so you can use it in parallel with whatever Japanese learning resource you choose.

Mainly, though, I think the following type of person will benefit most:

  • Someone who feels like their Japanese language progress has stalled.
  • Someone who doesn’t feel like they’re learning Japanese fast enough.
  • Someone who’s ready to take their Japanese to the next level.

I want you to become a Japanese learning powerhouse – it’s not easy (I’m not going to sugarcoat it), but there are very different things that great Japanese learners do that nobody else does. It’s not a matter of working harder… it’s knowing how to work, and I reveal those secrets in this ebook.

Click the button above to see this ebook’s store page and learn more about what you’ll be getting!

67% Off Introductory Pricing And More!

Since it’s our first ebook, I wanted to make sure it was nice and affordable for everyone. For the first week, we’ll be offering it at 67% off (so, $10 instead of $30). That comes out to around 33 cents per day. I make more than that checking my couch cushions. Plus, you’ll get all the future bonus chapters, future improved versions of this ebook, and access to alpha testing of Viet@Tofugu’s current project, a webapp for learning kanji. It’s not ready yet, but in the coming few weeks ebook buyers will be the first to get invites.

Of course, I’m totally understanding about refunds – if you go through it and it’s not helpful for you, just email me (koichi@tofugu.com) and I’ll get you a refund. Easy as that. I don’t want to sell something that you can’t use.

But, if I can save you five, ten, or even thirty years… well, I’d say that’s pretty useful. That means you’ll be speaking Japanese like a pro well before you turn into skeleton guy up above. It won’t be easy, but it doesn’t have to be slow. Get Our New Ebook Now :) →

Love the concept & I am hoping it works! My Nihongo is stagnant and has been for a few years (much to my wife’s disdain).

  • David

    I’m sold!

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

I hope so too! Let me know how it goes for you as you’re going through!

  • http://twitter.com/WackoMcGoose Kimura Okagawa

Seriously want! Only problem is, I can’t buy it for the same reason I couldn’t sign up for AJATT SilverSpoon, buy things on Steam Store (besides Valve’s active refusal to sell dedicated prepaid cards in retail stores), or for that matter, do anything online that requires money: Paypal’s account-creation restrictions on people under 21 (must have an existing checking account), and by extension, Bank of America’s $250 opening-deposit rule (they’re the only bank in my area).

But if I could afford that opening deposit (or if I was one year older so Paypal’s restriction didn’t apply to me), I’d totally buy it.

On one of the old TextFugu configurations/layouts, the dashboard had a section titled “E-books”.  Do TextFugu members get this free, or at least at a discount?

  • Csfergu

Was about to buy, but was disappointed to see paypal only. Sorry lost sale.

  • gorghurt

Will buy it today. Sounds great and fits perfectly into my plans right now. I’m more or less forced to switch from language class to self study. The table of content doesn’t sound like the ideas are this new, but I’m sure it will be great, like nearly everything from you guys.

  • Dominik Baselj

I’m going buy it, then I’m going to buy myself a Kindle! Oh, wait. I already have one! :D

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

they’ll continue to get a 66% discount after the sale here ends

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

Working on switching everything over to stripe, actually. I’m also no fan of paypal :(

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

We’ll be switching to another provider that only requires credit card or debit card numbers here pretty soon actually, so maybe you’ll be in luck…

  • http://twitter.com/WackoMcGoose Kimura Okagawa

There’s still the problem of actually getting said card… Being an unemployed college student sucks :(

  • Paladin341

Already bought it without even reading the article.  I really enjoyed TextFugu and Tofugu, there is no reason to NOT buy this. Can’t wait to start reading this

  • gorghurt

Don’t know if its just me, Linux, or something other than that, but i cant see Kanji in “Day 2″. The “Water” radical is shown fine, but after this i just have  the “+” which are (i think so at least) between the charakters. Could you tell me the font you used for the Kanji? Maybe i will send an more detailed email tomorrow, but now I dont have the time (its 3 am in germany right now)

  • hjordisa

Could you open an account at a bank in a nearby big city? If there’s nothing you have to pay with cash and you can get any funds direct deposited it should work. Seems like a pain though… Maybe not.

I don’t know where you live, but are those “prepaid Visa” cards available for you? Because, if they make it so only a credit/debit card is required, this should work :D i.e. http://www.visa-asia.com/ap/au/cardholders/cardsservices/visa_prepaid.shtml

Will order! Am currently enjoying TextFugu. This will be nice on my iPad.

  • Cloudwindgate

I have bought you :D now I own both textfugu and this ebook keep up the great work and thank-you for everything

  • Olie

Bought! This should be ultra useful as preparation on improving my studying technique before I go to Japan next September.

  • Noah

Yes!!! I am a sucker for anything Tofugu; I love everything about this company! :D

In other words, I am going to buy this like, right now.

  • Dy~

Oh good, reading the comments actually helped me with FAQ this time. (have to wait for my next paycheck… or the one after that *GW2 CE 10/4/12 [april, not october]*, so I was wondering if a Textfugu member could get a discount even after the introductory price goes). Turns out my fears have subsided :D

  • Zaywex

Haha, when I saw your title, I thought it would be a post berating us for buying books promising quick yields.

  • Stroopwafel

You know, Koichi, have you ever considered selling this stuff in the iTunes store?
I think I would but this book if I could, but I can’t use PayPal and I don’t have a credit card. Now, I’m not sure of the procedure one has to go through to sell your merchandise in the iTunes store, but I imagine some profit going to Apple if you do. So that would definitely be the downside of it…
Also, I think you need an ISBN number for your book.

  • Hinoema

I think I love you guys. I’m taking the summer quarter off from college to see if I can get myself to the point where I can test out of my first year Japanese classes*, and this looks like *exactly* what I need!

(*I’m a distance education student, and the only thing I can’t do online is the language classes- this will buy me time to move to where the college *is*.)

    Thanks!

    *Goes to buy*

  • Hinoema

Why not become an Amazon affiliate? Like so many, I have a One Click account with them, so I’d probably impulse-buy everything you’ve got.

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

yes! After the first week official sale, I’ll put a coupon code up in the textfugu dashboard for the same sale price.

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

    bwahahahaa muwahahaha

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

yes! I need to make some changes to it, but I’ll eventually try selling in the kindle / ibooks store, probably ibooks first because it’s easier for me to just use iBooks Author and publish that way (then I can add video and stuff too, which’d be cool…)

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

    Thanks! <3

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

I even tested it on an iPad – I don’t think the table of contents works the way it’s supposed to… but I’ll be fixing that in v1.1, if I can figure out how… All the important stuff should be fine, tho!

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

    aww, ty! <3 <3

  • http://gakuranman.com Gakuranman

    Congratulations!

  • http://twitter.com/Musouka Musouka

Got my copy before they are sold out(笑);)

I would have loved the ability to use my Textfugu username to access the Tofugu store without the need to register again (which only took a moment anyway)… something to consider especially seeing how the PayPal payment was billed for Textfugu.

  • jdduq

ahhh poop! I just bought it and I noticed too late that my paypal account is set to use the “eCheck” thing to pay and now it says that I have to wait for 6 to 8 days for it to clear… :(

Does that mean I’ll have to wait a week before I can download the ebook?

  • http://twitter.com/Musouka Musouka

When the Kindle version eventually ships, would those who bought the eBook receive some type of discount/coupon if they wanted to get the book again on the Kindle?

  • jabes

Thanks for making this happen!  I had ordered the ebook!

  • gorghurt

Hmm, tried another reader (foxit) and it works great, while “document viewer” won’t show japanese charakters.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_C2XD5DWM65GS4ZVC52AERY2BZU mark

Are you serious? 0.o It ain’t free for TextFugu forever membmers?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1322357587 Afiq Mao Mao

Hi, I want to get one of this but I never buy anything through online purchasing before. So this is my first time and I don’t have any customer account whatsoever.

So, do I have to fill in the billing process stuffs and check the “Create and account” box of where only afterward could I place my order?

  • Brian Duddy

If you’re a current college student, you should ask your local BofA if they have any kind of college student special… the one at my school does.

  • Rebeccawitham

Just got the ebook and have read three chapters – looks great! I sent you an email earlier about Remembering the Kanji (thanks for your reply!), and now I mostly see that I can more or less make up my own mnemonics to remember kanji, esp. through use of radicals. Yay! Thanks again for what looks like an awesome read :)
    Bec.

  • Marcobach_bios2003

i check you blog all days and youtube too jejejeje really i like very much how you manage japanesee jejejeje i hope to lear very much of this ebook, saludos!!

  • Mayday

hi, is this suitable for beginner?

  • Mali_2490

Just bought it and read the first two days. I think the chapter with the Kanji is the same method which is described in the book “Kanji ABC”. Unfortinately I think you cannot buy this book anymore but we got a scan from our teacher in university. It’s very helpful.
I for myself am really bad in making up stories around the Kanji but my friend is good at it. When she tells me her stories I also can remember the Kanji better.
I hope the following chapters can help me, kinda have the feeling my japanese is stuck at one point and I always use the same grammar and vocabulary…-.-

  • http://www.tofugu.com/ Hashi

Yes, it’s designed for beginners! :)

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

Yeah, would definitely be nice. It’s a totally different platform and such though, so connecting them isn’t too feasible for us at the moment :(

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

Probably :( Email me, I’ll hook you up.

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

     thank you!
