Tofugu Summer Internship!

As I mentioned a little while ago, Tofugu is looking to hire an unpaid virtual (as in, you can work from anywhere) summer intern to help us out! Tofugu is successful, profitable, and growing (with two whole employees… that’s like, 1 employee plus 400 employees minus 399 employees). We’re looking for someone to spend 5-10 hours a week to:

  • Research Japanese language and culture.
  • Write weekly posts for Tofugu.
  • Help build and maintain TextFugu.
  • Work on other miscellaneous things as required.
  • Work on one larger project (decided by you and us together!)

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFdgDvyeuj4']

What will you get out of all this back-breaking hard labor? Well, other than the warm, fuzzy feeling of self-gratification for a job well-done, there are also plenty of other benefits. If you are picked for our summer internship, you will:

  • Gain insight into blogging as a business
  • Learn about Tofugu’s style of marketing (super secret!)
  • Learn how to start / work on your own blog, and be one of the few people in the world who know how to make a living off blogging.
  • Get the opportunity to see the inner workings of Tofugu firsthand.
  • Stick it to those boring old newspapers.
  • Gain some real startup experience and learn about running your own small company.
  • Get a TextFugu Forever membership, free of the normal $120 charge.
  • Get to show your work to hundreds of thousands of people.

As for what we want, we’re just mostly looking for hard workers. We believe that almost everything except hard work can be taught (it’s an internship after all, so there should be some learning in there somewhere). Your writing ability should also be good (but not stuffy) and you should be a net native, so to speak. Oh, and hopefully you’re an interesting (nice) person, too!

Now, If all of that sounds great to you and you’re willing to bear the hard labor of working for one of the coolest Japan blogs out there, then please click on the button below and fill out the application:

So get crackin’ on those applications! We will only be accepting applications for a little over a week, so please have your application in by June 17. Good luck!

P.S. We’ll pretty much only hire interns who follow our Twitter.

P.P.S. Oh, and Facebook, too.

  • Jon E.

I want to, but I’m so crunched for time right now, taking summer courses at my local community college and working part-time. Boo… hope you can find someone as good as I’d be ;-)

Is it necessary to be a native English speaker? ^^
    What about age limit?

  • JackiJinx

How many hours a week are you looking for?

    Koichi,
Are you going to be doing this every summer? I’m just starting college, and I’ve been looking into internships over the summer. I can’t do one this year (starting college in 2 weeks!!) but I’d be interested in applying next summer, should you decide to hire another summer intern.

We’re looking for someone to work 5-10 hours a week, but it’s pretty flexible.

  • Anonymous

You don’t have to be a native speaker, but you definitely have to be very proficient. We don’t really have an age limit either, so be sure to put in your application!

  • Anonymous

    Oh, man! Maybe next time!

  • Anonymous

We’re gonna see how this internship goes before decide about future summers. But definitely keep your eyes open!

I’m intrigued, though I’m not sure how much time I’ll have this summer.  (Though it’s really not that much time, in the grand scheme of things.)

And is speaking Japanese a requirement either?

  • Elysia W

    This sounds great O_O
    I’m going to apply.
But, it also sounds a bit scary :)

Go for it! It can’t hurt to apply :)

You probably want some Japanese knowledge, but you don’t have to be fluent or anything. :p

  • C J

i’m going to be in Japan for 7 weeks over summer and i can’t decide whether that should deter me from applying (due to time constraints) or whether i should be even more keen to apply as i would be able to gather good material :S

when exactly is this internship due to start?

  • Licia

This makes me so happy! I really wanted something productive to do over the summer. Definately applied and I’ll have my fingers crossed!!!

  • Seline

Are there any age restrictions? I’m not yet eighteen. If there aren’t, I’d be happy to apply.

  • Anonymous

Unfortunately, we can only probably hire people who are ages 16 and up for legal reasons :(

  • Anonymous

I’m definitely interested! However, since I have final exams the next 2 weeks, I’m wondering when did you plan for the internship to officially start (and end)…

  • Lue

I’ve never written a blog before but this seems like a really neat opportunity.  Should I still apply or is this too much of a weakness?

  • http://twitter.com/fembassist Jenny

This would be a great opportunity for me too. I’ve been in Japan for the past 3 years and would love to help people learn Japanese or the culture. Would you hire older people who have BS degrees but would like to try something new?

  • Mac @ JLPT Boot Camp

Darn, is it possible to do like a 2 hour a week internship? haha. Would love to help out and find the dinosaurs, but way too busy.

Well then, hopefully all goes well! Super jealous of whomever the intern-to-be is, but hopefully I’ll get a chance next year!

Feel free to apply! It definitely can’t hurt :)
