Suggestions For Japanese Blogs To Follow?

Hey there, you.

I’m working on an article about studying Japanese using Japanese blogs, but need your help! I’m going through and categorizing Japanese blogs to figure out what blogs are good for what kind of study. I’m also looking for video blogs, if you know of any.

What I’m looking for is your suggestions / your favorite Japanese blogs (in Japanese) that people could potentially use for intermediate / advanced study. It doesn’t really matter what the subject is, how big / small the blog is… really the most important thing, I think, is that the content could be considered interesting (thus making studying it interesting as well).

So, whether it’s cat eater Shoko Nakagawa or Gigazine, let me know what you like. Video bloggers, as mentioned earlier, totally work as well (in fact, that would be awesome, because I don’t know as much about that area of things).

Then, thanks to your help, I’ll go through and figure out the best ones for use in studying Japanese, and it should be pretty awesome.

Tell me your faves in the comments section below!

Yee, haw.

thanks for this! I've had Gizmodo bookmarked on my toolbar for years and read it every time I open my browser! I had no idea they had a Japanese site :) haha

I enjoy perusing this one with lots of great captioned photos of various attractions around Japan. Museums, mountains, etc. Really great for word associations. http://blog.goo.ne.jp/uguisuno_oka
And some of the people at Drop have blogs, so I check theirs out from time to time http://droptokyo.com/blogs/blogs.php

I also follow a bunch of Japanese-speaking people on Twitter for bite-sized practicing. (Mostly on fashion and music)
    http://twitter.com/FruitsMag
    http://twitter.com/RIDSNAP
    http://twitter.com/MIYAVI_OFFICIAL
    http://twitter.com/TokyoGirlGeek
    http://twitter.com/droptokyo

And I hope this doesn't sound like butt-kissing, but I do enjoy http://www.youtube.com/user/koichiben XP. You are so illustrative in those videos that I can pick up a lot through context, as opposed to a lot of vloggers who just talk straight at the camera with no visualizations for me to go off of.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Hikosaemon is another good one. His videos are usually subtitled (usually in both Japanese and English) and he gives a lot of good examples to help solidify concepts.

I'd love to have more sources so I await your article while scouring these here comments >3>.

Tiffany not only explored the various jewelry processes of the time, but also branched out into new metals,Tiffany Jewelry such as platinum, which at the time was considered very hard to manipulate. It seems to be the case that unusual colorations appealed to Tiffany, like the opal.He also preferred gemstones that were either opaque or translucent.Silver Tiffany Turquoise, jade, carnelian, lapis, moonstones, and opals were all chosen for their ability to filter light. Tiffany BraceletsEmphasis based on color was very prevalent in his works. He devoted hi s first year of jewelry making to mainly a focus towards forms and techniques,Tiffany Earrings and only began to really put a collection together once he was satisfied with the fruits of his labor.Once Tiffany and Co.’s began to manufacture his jewelry, Tiffany Necklacesthere was a marked evolution in his pieces. His earlier pieces went from being made in a “hand-wrought” looking manner, to a much more symmetrical and stylized fashion.

I've been going to a Japanese teacher's blog called Study Japanese with Mie!
    http://japanesewithmie.blogspot.com

I've only recently discovered it (~1 month), but in many of her posts she makes a short/medium length entry in English, with Japanese equivalent beneath. Also, she makes her own 'words & phrases' list in which she has the definitions of terms used in her entry.

From what I've read, it's probably a good blog for intermediate people. I like it for the small reading practice, but also for the nice amount of new vocab she uses. I always find some phrases that I don't usually see in Japanese language guides. Not slang, but just natural sentence patterns.

  • http://twitter.com/rooster_news ハインツ

I know it's a tad late, but can I be a cheeky bastard to recommend my blog? ;)
    http://roosternews.blog134.fc2.com/

It's about news and youtube vids popular on English websites (digg, reddit and stuff), and I just add a bit of Japanese text to explain what it is for those who don't speak English. I believe they shouldn't be too difficult (cos it's short), but do comment on my blog if you can't get any of my texts.

Good luck for your Japanese leaning! :)
