Yep, I agree about Linux comment. It has free JapaneseEnglish dictionary you can use offline. Writing in Japanese is also very easy, I made all those sheets (http://marius-kanji-practice.blogspot.com/) in Ubuntu using OpenOffice. Ubuntu is a free operating system which works great even on an old PC with poor spec. Oh, and I do use Mac at home too.

As a contractor, I work in a new office on a new computer every couple of weeks. And on computers where I don’t necessarily have the admin privileges to install add-ons. The fact that enabling Japanese input and creating shortcuts to toggle between Japanese and English is so easy on a Mac is the number one winning factor. I find it’s autocomplete (bash space after your hiragana) to be nicer to use as well.
