2Chanerized Characters Part 2: Mickey Mouse & Hello Kitty

In our previous post, we covered Ronald McDonald (i.e. “Donald”) and Colonel Sanders. This time, we’ll be looking at perhaps two of the most well known mascots in the world: Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse.

Hello Kitty is owned by the company Sanrio, which has a bunch of other cute characters as well, and Mickey? Well, I should hope you know where he comes from.

Let’s start with the most disturbing image first and then work our way down (Sort of NSFW).

And, before you have time to ask any questions, here’s where this image came from. It’s from a comedy sketch titled (in English) “The After School Electromagnetic Wave Club.” Check out the video below for way too much information, if you know what I mean.

See what I mean about starting with the most disturbing image first?

This has to be the coolest New Years card ever. If you’re doing the whole living in Japan thing, you gotta send out New Years cards. You might want to pick something a little more… subtle, though.

Here’s another New Years card. Everyone remember Pokemon? It looks like the years weren’t too good on Pikachu. In the meantime, Mickey was working out, it seems…

It worries me how good these look together… I think that means it’s time to move on to Hello Kitty

I don’t even know what to say about this one. What really tops things off is the eyes on the right. Watch him… er… her… eyes.

Remember this article about Thai Police having to wear Hello Kitty arm bands when they weren’t good? This picture takes that concept a step further. Several, big, steps.

And last but not least, it’s “Long Hello Kitty.” If you’ve ever seen the Internet before, you’ve probably run into long cat at one time or another. I’m surprised nobody came up with this sooner.

Wow these past two articles have been so disturbing/awesome! I'm looking forward to more!

Quick question: why is blood type such a vital statistic among Japanese? I first noticed it on Mixi and then I noticed it's on Hello Kitty's profile. I personally have no idea what blood type I am, is it a big deal in Japan?

I'm not sure why blood type is so important… It's just one of those things. Part of it is because there's be belief that blood type dictates personality / creativity / work ethic, etc. I'm not exactly sure of all the different blood types and what they mean, but here's what Wikipedia says:

    Type A
    Best Traits: Earnest, creative, sensible.
    Worst Traits: Fastidious, overearnest.

    Type B
Best Traits: Wild, a doer, cheerful.
    Worst Traits: Selfish, irresponsible.

    Type AB
    Best Traits: Cool, controlled, rational.
    Worst Traits: Critical, indecisive.

    Type O
Best Traits: Agreeable, sociable, an optimist
    Worst Traits: Vain, careless.

I'm going to go with the 'That's bull' response.

I personally think I'm more of an AB but have Type O blood. Or is thinking I have AB's qualities Vain…? Oh crap, That's supposedly one of my worst traits :(

  • http://www.tofugu.com koichi

Type O is the “lazy but sociable type” haha.

I'm Type A, and I think it fits pretty well :)
    Definitely kind of fastidious.

They might be “two of the most well known mascots in the world” but I think I would rather enjoy domo-kun parodies ^_^

The kitties at the top are going to eat Pikachu next. :(

Japan is secretly a cattle society. Bred for the very purpose to feed the vampires. This is the sole reason they are a homogeneous society. The vampires won't allow the best pure breed for blood to be tainted by outsiders. The blood types is sort of like flavoring/quality, just like wine.
