I know this is old, but Japan doesn’t hate foreigners like everyone thinks! Granted, they “fear” us because they hear horror stories and have stereotypes, just like we hear them about them and do to them as well. I know that they had a VERY good reason for doing it this way. Maybe it helps keep track of users better. Maybe if Americans got a phone they could. For example, I have a mixi. I signed with a phone address, and they gave options to enter my residence. Now, if the intention was to “shut out” Americans, why did they have “在外” as an option, which means “Overseas”? and when I clicked it, they gave me “アメリカ合衆国” which means “The United States of America” Maybe they forgot…yeah right. They like us. They hear stuff and sometimes they don’t like the way we do things here in America but they like us. And it’s the same with us: Sometimes they do things we don’t particularly approve of, but we like them because it’s two different cultures and usually once we get eachother’s perspective on things, we feel better. :3
